Baltimore Authorities Share Surveillance Video: Seeking Public's Assistance in Morgan State University Shooting
The Baltimore law enforcement agencies have recently released a surveillance video capturing persons of interest in the shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday at Morgan State University. As part of the investigative process, these individuals have now become highly sought after, and the police are calling upon the public to help identify them.
Shooting a Result of a Dispute
According to Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley, the Tuesday night shooting incident seems to have originated from a squabble between two minor groups. One person in particular was targeted by two weaponized individuals during the homecoming celebrations at Maryland's historically Black university. Needless to say, the shooting which shocked the city's largest academic institution rocked its peaceful atmosphere and abruptly halted its joyous homecoming week.
Victims and Their Conditions
Corroborated by Commissioner Worley, of the five people hit by the gunfire, four were undergraduate students, none of whom were intended targets. Upon examination, all victims, composed of four males and one female, aged between 18 and 22 years, have non-life-threatening injuries. They have since received medical attention at local hospitals. Moreover, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott clarified that the shooting's motive does not seem to be racially inclined.
Prompt Response to the Incident
Police authorities promptly responded to the incident, arriving at the scene to commence investigations around 9:25 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Morgan State University took immediate action, releasing a shelter-in-place order on campus. The incident was later confirmed as a non-active shooter situation on social media, just before midnight. Within the hour, the institution's shelter-in-place order was lifted.
Impact on Academic Activities
As a safety measure, classes at Morgan State University have been suspended for the remainder of the week. The President of the University, David Wilson, also announced the cancellation or postponement of homecoming events until the suspect is apprehended. Despite the ongoing investigations, no arrests have yet been made.
Call for Public Assistance
The Baltimore Police Department has urged anyone with potential information about the case to contact the detectives working the case at 410-396-2444. For those wishing to remain anonymous, they can pass on their information through the Metro Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-866-7Lockup.
