Charlotte Sena's accused kidnapper targeted her because of late grandfather's multi-million fortune: ex-girlfriend

Millionaire Legacy Behind Kidnapping Of Charlotte Sena: Ex-Girlfriend Reveals

Charlotte Sena's Kidnapper Had Eyes on Late Grandfather's Fortune

The suspect in the kidnapping of 9-year-old Charlotte Sena in upstate New York allegedly targeted the young girl for the purpose of extracting her late grandfather's substantial estate, according to the suspect's previous paramour. She claimed that the accused was under severe financial strain and was hoping to grab some of the fortune.

Arraigned Kidnapper Named

Craig Ross Jr., 46 years old, is charged with the abduction of Charlotte Sena, who was discovered concealed within a closet in his trailer home. She had been reported missing after she failed to return from a bicycle ride during a family camping trip.

The Money Trail

The deceased wealthy elder, Patrick Sena, is remembered for winning a $2.2 million lawsuit against the small town of Greenfield, New York, in 1998 over a sledding mishap. It is believed that this victory was behind the financial motive of the kidnapping.

Risks for Ransom

According to the 33-year-old Amanda Preece, Ross's ex-partner, Ross presumably targeted the Sena family for a $50,000 ransom due to his knowledge of the winnings from the past legal victory. She accuses Ross of taking advantage of others for financial gain, even exploiting his diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

Financial Troubles Stir Desperate Acts

Ross's financial woes reportedly encompassed unpaid taxes on a property not far from the Sena family's residence, among other debts. This forced him to move into a trailer on his mother's property. Preece claims that Ross's desperate financial state motivated the abduction. She even implies that Ross had been planning the snatching and had been observing the Sena family for some time.

Further Legal and Criminal Implications

Ross's history with the law surfaces with records of a restraining order filed by Preece in 2017 after a violent encounter. He was recently the focus of a just-concluded investigation involving the alleged sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl, which did not result in charges. Following Ross's arrest, police are tracing links between him and other cold cases in the area. His DNA was matched to fingerprints on a ransom note left in the Sena family's mailbox, leading to his arrest.

Current Legal Status

Ross, who is locked up at the Saratoga County Jail, was arraigned on first-degree kidnapping with intent to collect ransom charges. Further charges are likely as the investigations continue. Currently, he is being held without bail with his next court hearing scheduled for Oct. 17.
